Can you tell us more about your new album called « Life Will Kill You » and can you speak to us about the recording sessions ? Well it’s always a battle in the beginning as you’ve spent a year or so touring & don’t know if you still have the magic in you! Usually it takes about a month or so before anything good comes out & then it starts flowing a bit more naturally! We simply sit in our small room & put all our ideas on the table & then decide what we feel is good enough to work on, from there we just throw in bits & pieces, new ideas & random riffs, lyrics or melodies until a song starts appearing! We don’t do any tradional jamming, we never have, it’s all computer based & programmed up until we do the final recording & then we use live drums & re-record it all properly even if demos sound so good these days you can almost use them!
Well I guess I sort of just answered that with the previous question so I’ll leave this one!
Well the lyrics are all very different but there usually always a few very serious topics that I like to try & tackle, on this one Incest is one of them, suicide bombers another, therapy, abuse & other "difficult" topics! I just like to try & sort things out a bit & air some of my concerns, I’ve always been inspired by bands who have had something to say & I guess that’s why I sort of do it the same way!
Well this album is not as streamlined, stripped down & hardcore as HYWS, it's more of a melting pot of all the different things that have influenced us through the years! We decided to use any means neccessary in order to take each song as far as we could so we didn't censor any ideas until we had at least tried them out, in other words this album is more diverse, melodic & more playful but at the same time maybe slightly more introvert at least lyricwise! Apart from that we're still the same guys making music for the same reasons so it's no big departure from the Clawfinger formula, we just decided to fuck all the rockrules this time & do whatever we please!
Well I have different favourites for different reasons but if I have to pick only one then at the moment it’s "Where Can We Go From Here" becos’ I like the guitar riff in the verse that plays like a loop, my lyrics on top of it make it hard as fuck & then I like how it breaks out into a singalong chorus & goes into a rap theme in the break! It’s just an unexpected turn that feels refreshing as it’s not a typical Clawfinger track but still sounds very much like us!
Well at the moment we’re playing 3 tracks, The price we pay, Life will kill you & Prisoners but I’m sure we’ll rehearse most of them for the tour in the autumn & then pick out the ones that sound the best & add them to the set!
That is such a hard question to answer cos’ there are so many albums I adore but here are a few off the top of my head, keep in mind that it is no complete list! Frank Zappa: Aposthrophé Beastie Boys:Paul’s Boutique Faith No More: King for a day, fool for a lifetime John Lennon:Platic Ono Band Naked City:Naked City Barkmarket: L.Ron N.W.A.:Straight outta Compton Tom Waits: Small Change Metallica:Master of puppets Dead Kennedys:Fresh fruit for rotting vegetables Helmet: Meantime Public Enemy: It Takes a nation of millions to hold us back Alice In Chains:Dirt De La Soul: 3 Feet high & rising Mr.Bungle: California Miles Davis:Get Up With it Bob Marley:Survival Pantera:Vulgar display of power…………………………..and so many more!
I don’t really have one, there are good and bad bands within all styles of music & I don’t listen more to metal than to any other kind of music, I don’t know enough to give you a good answer so I’m better off saying nothing!:D
I simply wonder why I do what I do, I go to the toilet over & over again even though I don’t really have to go & I wander back & forth randomly & impatiently waiting for the show to start so the adrenaline can kick in & the fun can begin & the stress & agony of waiting can be over!!
Yes indeed there are, in October & November we will hit the road, don’t know where don’t know exact dates but if you’re lucky we’ll end up in a club near you so keep your eyes on the homepage for updates & keep your Clawfingers crossed!
Being in a band is a constant funny story, an endless silly joke, a totally unlogical & unrealistic world in a fucked up bubble so there are endless stories! The first one that comes to mind is the time outside Venice when we did a show just after we had a big band meeting that almost ended in a fight, we entered the stage all mad as fuck, I jumped as hard as I could trying to break the stage floor & succeeded, all of a sudden I was standing with only my head above the stage, it must have looked so silly! At the same time our guitarplayer was drinking whiskey throughout the gig & we more or less had to carry him off stage, the rest of the guys were all beating the hell out of their instruments to ventilate their aggression, it was a bizarre moment, not funny at the time but hilarious now!
Do the rest of the summer festivals, plan & make some more videos, rehearse some more new songs & then start prepairing for the clubtour, inbetween the festivals we’ll spend as much time as possible with our families & enjoy the summer!
Yeah, keep on playing the good shit, the original bands that do their own thing & stay the hell away from the commercialed crap that is manufactured by record companies & business men only to sell as many copies as possible to kids who don’t know better, music is an eargasm, not a package with cute guys all smiling into the camera & playing songs they haven’t written themselves!
