Can you remain to us the story of Crowpath ? Well, Crowpath started back in 97 in a small town in the south os Sweden. Me, Erik Hall-drums, Henrik Ivarsson-vocals and Patrik Lundh-guitars, has been permanent members since then and we have had a few bassplayers but Dan Bengtsson joined the band in 01 and has been with us since. Our first releas was a split 7" with a german band called Drown in frustration back in 99, we had made a few demos prior to that. After that we did our s/t 7" on Scorched Earth Policy and then things started to roll for the band. We did a 5" released by Pillowscars in 01and all these releases was later to end up on a collection called "Old cuts and blunt knives" released by Robotic Empire. Then we did the first fullength album "Red on chrome" in 03 and last summer we recorded the latest effort "son of sulphur" here in our hometown of Malmö. Both fullength albums has been released by Willowtip in the US and by Earache in Europe.
Wow...a lot to mention. i guess we started out like most fans of metal in the early-mid 90īs. A lot of Sepultura, Pantera, Entombed, Integrity, Slayer, Carcass and Morbid Angel. I guess all of the members personal influences has affected the music we create in some way. I think bands like Breach, Kiss it goodbye, Coalesce, Deadguy, Today is the day and Entombed was the basic foundation when we started out as well as now.
Itīs hard to just describe in a few words. We have never had a clear concept of how to create our music but we do love the extremes. i think the exstremes of fast/complex and slow/heavy stuff complete each other. there are sertain things and feelings that you as a musician and listener cant achive with just fast stuff and vice versa. Our goal is not to be the most extreme band or anything, we are just quite restless and sometimes after writing a fast song you just donīt wanna do a nother fast song straight up, we need some breathing room, and then we just do what we do. Ok, iīll put it simple: 2/5:th fast stuff, 1/5:th slow stuff, 1/5:th complexity and 1/5:th of groove to top it off with.
Well, itīs our second fullength album, mainly a bout an good old arsonist from our beloved hometown. i would say that this one is a little bit more focused than "Red on chrome" i guess. We just tried to expand our sound, make the fast stuff faster, the doomy stuff doomier etc.
We recorded the album with an old friend of ours, Andy Andersson and he works at the Berno Studio. It was really relaxing to record with a friend and in our hometown. We pretty much had a clear picture of what to do in the studio so everything went smooth. We almost destroyed our fingers even before we started recording because of that damn Playstation.
either some of us has a riff, a drume beat or some kind of idea to work around, then we mainly jam to see where to get from there.
Well, the album more or less just turned out to be some kind of comcept album. It wasīnt really intentional, but it turned out cool anyway. A lot of the lyrics are based upon a local arsoinst from our hometown and some other peculiar characters. There is nothing we know better and can tell more truthfully than stories from our old hometown. I think it would be quite akward for us to write about stuff we are not familiar with. Heīs an intresting character and theres so many sides to him that we could probably write lyrics about him for another couple of albums.
We got the artwork from this finnish guy called Juha Wourma. He has done some cool stuff for Autopsy, Usurper ans some othe stuff. Check out his works, itīs really awsome.
Hmmm, a tough one. itīs like picking your favourite kid. Iīd say Chased, Caught and Charged. I just like that song, no perticular reason. The Will to Burn got som catchy stuff in it so i lik that one as well...End in Water brings the boogie, so i got to pick that onw as well...hell, i like em all.
Wow. Ok, iīll give you three personal favourites. 1. Entombed - Wolverine Blues. Itīs just one hell of an album, all hits and the whole album is just very well put together as an entity. 2. Deadguy - Screaming with... just an kick ass EP that just crushed my balls when i first heard it. 3. Breach - most of their stuff, they were just a great band that just did a lot of cool stuff that is hard to pin point.
Well, not currently. Me and Dan used to do a sludge band called Murinus but we havīnt been doing it for a year or so now. Dan also play addtional live bass in a noise band called Shift. Me and Patrik got some weird stuff going on, itīs not really a band. We just record whatever we come up with.
We have planned a European tour from june 16:th-27:th. We will hit Germany, Holland, Belgium an France so itīs gonna be cool. We weill head over to the US right after that for three weeks of touring, then we will be so broke that we have to work for the rest of our lives to pay the depts for doing this. This fall we will also do a lot more touring than before so it will be hectic times for us i hope.
cant pick one right now.
We will do a split 7" later this spring and we are allready working on songs for the next album so we are keeping ourselves bizzy.
Thanks for the interview, see you on tour.
