Interview Lechery

Can you remain to us the story of Lechery ?

Me and Martin Bengtsson have played together on and off for many years.

The current line-up was completed when bass-player Martin Karlsson joined the band in 2004, but the embryo was borned long ago. Me and Martin Bengtsson met in high-school and started to play together, we struggled through many bands and then Martin joined Arch Enemy for a couple of years, and it was after that we really started off what became Lechery. After a couple of bass-players we found Martin Karlsson that had played with Rob before and then the band was born.

How would you describe your music in your own words ?

Well, we like to describe our music as just pure heavy metal. It’s just as simple as that, we try to keep it fairly simple and focus on strong melodies, both on guitars and vocals, and a solid rhythm ground. We prefer a good song rather than too much technical stuff.

Can you tell us more about your debut album called « Violator » ?

It’s a heavy metal album that sounds just the way the four of us always wanted heavy metal to sound. We are really proud of it and I think that metalheads around the world will enjoy it, nothing tricky, no compromises, just heavy metal !

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

The recording of the album were a bit messy at times. We really wanted Rickard Bengtsson our producer, but at that time Rickard was building his new studio so we nowhere to record. We managed to record the drums at another studio and then had to wait for a couple of months before continuing with the recordings. That is off course not the best scenario, but it also gave us a little time to go through he songs again and change some small things in the arrangement. And in the end Rickard did a great job and we are really satisfied with the result.

How did you proceed for the composition ?

It’s mostly a work in the rehearshal-room where we usually starts off with an idea that Martin has come up with. It could be a riff, melody or a chorus for example, and we just jam around and let everybody add their things to the song, until we find the way we want it. So it’s not so that we sit down and says : let’s write songs, we just let it come to us while having fun.

What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

Martin Bengtsson writes most of our songs, even though we try to keep it democratic so that everyone can put their things to the songs and have opinions of what’s best for the song. I guess when Martin write songs he get inspiration from many different things that’s going on around us, but he is for sure a big Sci-Fi fan so he most certainly get’s a lot of ideas from there.

Who created the artwork ?

The artwork is made by Carl-Andre Beckston at Monowasp, he created the cover from our own ideas and the result became great!

What’s your favourite track on « Violator » and why ?

That is for sure a tricky question, and the answer really is different from day to day. But I have to say at the moment I will go for "Your Fate" or "Slave Under Passion", mostly based on the fact that it’s such a great energy when we play them live.

Which songs from the album will you playing live ?

I think it will be different from show to show but I hope that every song on the album will be played live sometime.

What are your favourite bands and all times albums ?

The list could be long and most of the classic metalbands would be considered as a favourite. I asked the bandmembers to mention 1 album each and here´s the result :

Painkiller – Judas Priest

Metal heart – Accept

Somewhere in time – Iron Maiden

Slide it in - Whitesnake

Are there any plans for some gigs or an upcoming tour ?

We are working on that right now, but no dates are confirmed at the moment. Our maingoal for 2008 is to play live as much as possible and we would really enjoy to tour in Europe.

Do you have funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

… There’s nothing strange ever happens around Lechery ……. :) But a lot fun for sure !

Seriously, the worst things tend to happen during long and wet nights and those things we keep in the family, but if there’s anyone who wants to experience this nights them selves you are welcome to share a beer or two with us !

What are your projects for the future ?

As I mentioned earlier our maingoal right now is to do as many gigs that we can for this year, and then hopefully get back in the studio to record our next album, we already have a bunch of great songs that maybe ends up on that.

And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ?

If you are a fan of heavy metal, and like to bang head with your fist in the air, don’t hesitate to get yourself a copy of "VIOLATOR", you won’t be disappointed. Hope to see all of you metal-heads out there some day !

STAY METAL !
