Can you tell us more about your new album called « Lupus Dei » ? It´s metal, it´s sinister and dark, it´s melodic and wild – it´s a declaration of love to heavy metal!!!!!
Well, we redorded it in several studios in Germany as well as in a medieval church. Especially the recordings in the church were something really special for us, as it was very atmospheric and inspiring. It was hard work to the the right people conviced of letting a metal band record in a church, but it was worth all the work. Well, and finally we went to Sweden to mix the album at Studio Fredman with Fredrik Nordström. He did a killer job. We love the sound of Lupus dei, as it´s powerfull and wild, and not as clinical and triggered as most of the actual metal productions sound.
We can only write songs when all five wolves are together in one room. It has to do with atompshere, wirh spirit and chemistry. For us it´s essential that a powerwolf song has this typical feeling we can only invoke when we all compose together.
In the bible and in the metal scene. Just compare it and you will find a lot of similarities!!!!
The front cover artwork was done by Niklas Sundin, and I did the booklet and sleeve art. We love it as is simple and icon-like.
Well, Fredrik also did our first album Return in bloodred, and so we already knew he´s be the right guy for this album. He is as insane for metal as we are ourselves and we share a similar kind of humour. When working har on an album it´s important that at some points you can laugh about yourself and your music – and Fredrik is somebody who thinks right the same – which makes him very important for Powerwolf´s sound.
It changes from time to time, but actually it´s "Prayer in the dark" as this song contains everything Powerwolf is about: a great hymnic chorus, some cool old school metal verses, some dramatic elements, as the church choir part, and some nice Iron maiden inspired guitar work. I love it!
Sinister, wild and dark – just like heavy metal should be!
Well, if I had to name just three of them it would surely be Iron maiden, Black Sabbath with Ozzy as well as Ozzy´s solo albums, and Mercyful fate. MY alltime faves thus are albums like "Diary of a madman" and definitely "7th son of a 7th son" – we always listen to this album when we´re killing time in the tourbus.
It´s great. Just look at all the great metal fans all over the world: their music is their religion, it´s a lifestyle – that´s great and the wolf is proud to be a part of it!!!!
Horrible. I´m happy I can´t really remember, haha…. But there´s probably some shows I can´t really remember, especially when touring and playing every night….
We´re just about to plan and negotiate possible options for a European tour, but there´s nothing confirmed yet. Well, first of all we´ll play some summer festivals such as the Summerbreeze, and then we´ll play some shows together with Grave Digger in Germany – and I hope the wolf will be around in all Europe later this year!!!!
Touring and making people clap their hand for both Jesus and Satan at the same time – it doesn´t matter if it´s the good or the bad side – what matters is METAL!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you don´t get a shock listening to metal – cause theres so much more metal to come for all of you – stay metal, stay cool and say your prayers to the god of metal!!!!
