Interview Xandria

Can you speak to us about your new album called " Salomé - The Seventh Veil "?

Yes, it's a great record! Any further questions?;-)

How did you proceed for the composition ?

As soon as we finish a record, we start to compose new songs. It's not a thing that we plan, but simply like to do.

Who is responsible for song writing ?

The songs were written by Marco, Lisa and Nils, but we rehearsed them a lot before we went into the studio. So Gerit and I, had the chance to add some ideas

What are the lyrics talking about and where do you find inspiration?

I think, more than ever, daily life was the main inspiration for the lyrics. And even a very mystical song like Salomé reflects not just a legend, but the different sides and faces that every woman has (and likes to show). At least, this is what Lisa told me... ;-)

Can you tell us more about the guest appearance of Mika Tauriainen from Entwine ?

Since this song is inspired by present finnish goth'n roll, just as Entwine play it, we loved the idea to work with a singer as Mika. We know the band since our Ravenheart-Tour in 2004 and we really like each other. We were really happy that Mika had the time to do it (for a box of red wine... which we still owe him...*g*)

For you, what are the biggest differences between this new album and the previous ?

You better tell me... because everbody feels different about it. For us, the biggest difference was to produce the album ourselves. Of course we were afraid of failing, concerning this new challenge. But finally, when we went into the studio, we were extremely well prepared, worked really quick and even had the time to have fun during the recordings. No production felt better. Concerning the sound, i#d like to say, that this is the most lively xandria record ever.

What's your favourite track on this album, and why ?

Of course, I think that there is a lot of great tracks on Salomé... ;-) I like the rocking tracks, such as Firestorm or Beware, i like the emotional songs as well (Salomé or The wind and the ocean). At the moment i like "A new age" best, because of the mixture of rock an electronic beats in the verses.

Which are the artists who influenced you or whom you appreciate particularly ?

As Marco told me, the "Wildhoney" record of Tiamat was really important for the beginnig of the band, back in the nineties. But right now, the biggest influnece for xandria are the five members of xandria!

What’s your opinion about the international metal scene? Specially in the category female fronted ?

The diversity of the scene has spread a lot, i like all of these bands, especially when you get to know them, you see, that there is a lot of great musicians and singers in the scene. And all the musicians we met, were really nice. Great Collegues :-)

Do you have any funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

Last week we played a show in Hamburg and half of the electricity broke down so we had to improvise. But the crowd realised that we were giving everything to present a good show and they had a good time. The funny thing was: Lisa predicted, that exactly this would happen: Technical problems, but good show. We will never allow her to make a prediction for a show based on runes... ;-)

Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?

We'd love to do a large tour in autumn. In September we have a show in London which is already confirmed and on our way to England, we would like to stop in France to do a few live-shows.

What are your projects for the future ?

Visit some more countries, bring our sound to them.

And finally, can you say some words for my radio show Metal Choc?

Salut french metalheads, we hope to come around pretty soon! Until we meet, listen to Metal Choc and buy xandria records!
